If kids never see a primary teacher who does not actively hate math -- meaning arithmetic, which is pretty much what is sure to happen today because we're actively selecting for it -- that's it. Parental involvement where there's a lot of it will sometimes work, but for anybody else, they'll never had a comfortable relationship with anything quantified.

Agreed that there's no present political will to fix this, but I think that's symptomatic of the general paralysis of institutions. We should be doing something very different, almost everyone actually knows that, and until we start, there's going to be an increasing tangle of injustice.
