The Archbishop of Canterbury is an ex-oil executive and an Evangelical, and not noted for his theological acuity. His predecessor was an Anglo-Catholic (and hence more likely to be aware of Thomas's theology), and Lady Margaret Professor of Divinity at Oxford (and, earlier than that, one of my brother's tutors at Cambridge), and generally considered to be rather brighter.
