I was more thinking of Good Queen Bess forward; Crown-granted monopolies turn into corporations (via colonies) and you get the present mechanisms of forceful resource extraction.
It's not "take their household goods" but it's very much "if you interfere with us getting what we want you get murdered", generally by formed units of troops. It's more abstract and more generalized and much larger in scope but it's the same pattern of distribution in terms of the exercise of military power.
