I saw the first production in High Park when it was a one-off - natural amphitheatre, no stage, just the background of the woods - and it worked well in that context; there was a slightly later version - one year, or two - which borrowed some staging from the Peter Brooks production, which also worked fairly well. Since then I've seen a number of productions and missed more, and have been less generally impressed as I went on. This year was very much worse.
And I'm certainly not sure that the conversion to a stage and a tiered theatre has really helped, either.
The Canadian Stage Company has been doing it since 1992; the original independent group led by Guy Spring is long gone.
