The corollary to editing beyond a first pass, in software development, is Robert Martin's Boy Scout Principle "Always check a module in cleaner than when you checked it out". In the case of editing, it's ensuring that what gets into the repository (or at least gets merged into master) has been thought through more than just at the level of "it works". In the case of revisions, it runs directly opposite to "you don't change working code".
