jsburbidge... that there was a Socialist Party of Ontario until I heard a political advertisement for them on the CBC this morning.
According to the ad, they support the sorts of things I would expect the NDP to support, but which it does not. On googling, I find that they were founded in 2011 as a response to the NDP shifting rightwards, with one candidate in the 2011 election: take it as a straw in the wind preceding the current infighting over the current campaign.
Horwath was elected as leader of the Ontario NDP in 2009.
My question is: will this trend continue (NDP becomes centrist, formalized by it being replaced on the left) or will it swing back with the next leadership campaign?
After all, Horwath's direction does not seem to be working out terribly well for the NDP. And when a Conservative ex-Senator is pushing a more progressive social support model that you're dodging which may become a critical issue as a result of technological changes and you want to be seen as a progressive party, maybe you're doing something wrong.
